Whether you\u2019re catching a glimpse of Jupiter at its brightest, watching Orion rise in the east, or enjoying the <a target=\"_self\" href=\"\/hunters-moon\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><u>Hunter\u2019s Moon<\/u><\/a>, there\u2019s something for everyone to see.<\/p><p><strong>The Draconid Meteor Shower<\/strong><\/p><p style=\"text-align:initial;\">The first meteor shower of the month arrives with the <strong>Draconids<\/strong>, peaking around <strong>October 8\u20139<\/strong>. Unlike most showers, the Draconids are best viewed in the evening, just after nightfall. Though usually modest at about 10 meteors per hour, they\u2019re famous for occasional outbursts, so it\u2019s worth keeping an eye out!<\/p><p style=\"text-align:initial;\"><strong>The Orionid Meteor Shower<\/strong><\/p><p style=\"text-align:initial;\">Later in the month, the <strong>Orionids<\/strong>\u00a0peak around <strong>October 21\u201322<\/strong>. These meteors come from Halley\u2019s Comet\u2019s dust trail and can produce up to 20 meteors per hour under dark skies. Best viewed after midnight, they streak from the constellation Orion, rising in the east during the small hours.<\/p><p style=\"text-align:initial;\"><strong>The Hunter's Moon<\/strong><\/p><p style=\"text-align:initial;\">October\u2019s full moon is known as the <strong>Hunter\u2019s Moon<\/strong>, reaching its peak on <strong>October 17<\/strong>. Like the Harvest Moon, it rises soon after sunset for several nights in a row, casting a bright glow over autumn evenings. Look for its orange hue near the horizon, perfect for atmospheric photos.<\/p><p style=\"text-align:initial;\"><strong>Planets on Display<\/strong><\/p><p style=\"text-align:initial;\">October is a fantastic month for planet watching:<\/p><ul><li><p style=\"text-align:initial;\"><strong>Saturn<\/strong>\u00a0shines brightly in the south during the evening, rings clearly visible through a telescope.<\/p><\/li><li><p style=\"text-align:initial;\"><strong>Jupiter<\/strong>\u00a0reaches <strong>opposition on October 3<\/strong>, meaning it\u2019s at its closest and brightest for the year, a true showstopper rising in the east as night falls.<\/p><\/li><li><p style=\"text-align:initial;\"><strong>Venus<\/strong>\u00a0continues to dominate the pre-dawn sky, dazzling as the \u201cMorning Star.\u201d<\/p><\/li><li><p style=\"text-align:initial;\"><strong>Mars<\/strong>\u00a0remains faint but can be spotted before sunrise, low in the east.<\/p><\/li><\/ul><p style=\"text-align:initial;\"><\/p><p style=\"text-align:initial;\"><strong>Autumn Constellations<\/strong><\/p><p style=\"text-align:initial;\">The stars of autumn now fully take over the night sky:<\/p><ul><li><p style=\"text-align:initial;\"><strong>Pegasus<\/strong>\u00a0with its Great Square dominates the east, a guidepost to spotting Andromeda.<\/p><\/li><li><p style=\"text-align:initial;\"><strong>Andromeda Galaxy (M31)<\/strong>\u00a0is a must-see target, the closest spiral galaxy to our own, visible to the naked eye in dark skies.<\/p><\/li><li><p style=\"text-align:initial;\"><strong>Cassiopeia\u2019s \u201cW\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0climbs higher, a helpful pointer to Andromeda and the Double Cluster in Perseus.<\/p><\/li><li><p
