Last year we went on a bike ride up at the Elan Valley. It was one of those glorious, crisp autumn days. The sun was shining and we were all super excited. All of us, except for my daughter.<\/p>

She was not a confident rider, having not picked the skill up as quickly as her siblings. Instead of progressing from the balance bike to the pedal bike, she had got stuck on stabilisers. Every time she tried the pedal bike, she would fall off and hurt herself. This meant that she was becoming more and more reluctant to give it a go.<\/p>

Then I had an idea! I removed the stabilisers and lowered the saddle. This way, she could reach the ground with her feet if she had a wobble, and ride it like a balance bike.<\/p>

After a few moans and groans, she gradually got the hang of it. And then something clicked and she was off - with a huge grin on her face!<\/p>

We found ourselves miles behind everyone else, but it was wonderful to share this moment of achievement with her, and bask in her newfound love of cycling.
